DuraFlex Chimney Cap Installation Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Cap Installation: The Leominster Owner’s Guide

We stock and install DuraFlex-compatible chimney caps for most DuraFlex liner systems in Leominster, with typical installed prices running $285-$475 depending on cap diameter and whether the top plate needs replacement. Most Leominster jobs are completed same-day if we confirm your liner series by phone. You’ll usually discover this part has failed after a storm, when water starts dripping onto the firebox floor, or when a nest or debris shows up in a flue that should be sealed.

Which DuraFlex Models This Applies To

DuraFlex chimney caps are not universal. The cap must match your liner diameter and the specific DuraFlex series you have installed. We see three main configurations in Leominster homes: the standard DuraFlex SW (stainless wrap) in 5″, 6″, and 8″ diameters; the DuraFlex HT high-temp line found in newer pellet and oil conversions around the North Leominster area; and occasional DuraFlex Pro installations from the early 2010s with the wider locking-band top plate.

The part number you need is stamped on the existing cap’s underside or on the liner’s top plate rim. If the tag is rusted off, we measure the liner OD and the plate width during our camera inspection. For DuraFlex specifically, we typically install OEM-spec caps through our Haven buying network rather than generic aftermarket equivalents. The OEM cap uses the correct 304-alloy mesh and the exact band-clamp spacing that aftermarket units often miss by an eighth-inch, which matters when the wind hits 40 off the Wachusett range.

Signs Your DuraFlex Chimney Cap Is Failing

Signs Your DuraFlex Chimney Cap Is Failing
  • Water staining on the firebox floor or smoke chamber walls. The cap’s mesh crown has corroded through or the base seal has separated from the flue tile, letting rain run straight down the liner. In Leominster, we see this accelerate after March ice storms when freeze-thaw cycling works the seal loose.
  • Debris, leaves, or nesting material in the flue. The mesh sides have pulled away from the frame or the cap has shifted on its mount, opening a gap larger than 3/4″. Squirrels can fit through a hole the size of a quarter; we’ve pulled nests from DuraFlex caps that looked intact from the ground.
  • Rust streaks down the exterior chimney face below the cap. The 304 stainless has begun to pit, usually at the weld points where the mesh meets the rain skirt. Once pitting starts on a DuraFlex cap, replacement is the only fix; surface rust is cosmetic, but orange streaking means the metal is thinning.
  • The cap is visibly tilted or missing after high wind. DuraFlex caps use a band-clamp or screw-tight mount depending on the series. The 2015-2019 SW clamps in particular can loosen if the liner has any thermal expansion play. We check liner tension as part of the reinstall.
  • Downdraft smoke or cold-air entry when the fireplace is not in use. The cap’s internal baffle has corroded or the mesh is so clogged with creosote that airflow reverses. This is common in Leominster’s older homes near Monument Square where the chimneys sit below the tree line and draft poorly already.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Component Price Range (Leominster)
DuraFlex OEM-spec cap, standard 5″-6″ $145-$195
DuraFlex OEM-spec cap, 8″ or HT series $185-$245
Top plate replacement (if corroded) $65-$95
Labor, inspection, and install $75-$135
Typical total installed $285-$475

What drives the range: liner diameter, whether we need to replace the top plate or band clamp, and roof access. A walkable gable roof in Leominster’s flat neighborhoods runs toward the lower end; a steep slate on a three-story Colonial near downtown adds time and rigging. Every job gets a written price before work starts, per Haven Standard Clause 1. The cap carries a 10-year material warranty; our labor is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

You can safely check two things from the ground: whether the cap is still seated level, and whether you see obvious mesh damage or missing pieces. Use binoculars. Do not climb the roof to tighten or remove a DuraFlex cap. The band-clamp systems require a specific torque sequence; over-tightening dimples the liner and creates a creosote trap, while under-tightening sends the cap into your neighbor’s yard during the next nor’easter. More critically, working at height on a chimney stack with hand tools is where homeowner injuries happen.

The camera goes up first. Everything else follows the footage. We document the liner condition, the cap mount, and the top plate integrity before quoting. If you’re seeing any of the symptoms above, call (978) 481-2900. We’ll confirm your DuraFlex series by phone and schedule a camera inspection, usually within 48 hours.
